TableCheck partners with Ctrip, Asia's largest online travel agency

TableCheck Partners with Ctrip, Asia's Largest Online Travel Agency to better serve the Inbound Market with online restaurant reservations ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Describing its corporate mission as "Dining Connected: Bridging the Gap Between the World's Restaurants and Customers," Chuo, Tokyo-based TableCheck Inc. (CEO: Yu Taniguchi) develops solutions including reservation and customer management systems, which it supplies to restaurants in 19 countries around the world. With the aim of further improving its ability to serve Chinese travelers in Japan, a market that is expected to grow even larger ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Games, TableCheck is pleased to announce that it has formed a business partnership with Asia's largest online travel agency, Shanghai-based Ctrip.com International Ltd. (CEO: Jane Jie Sun).

Partnership Formed with Ctrip: With 300 Million Registered Users, Ctrip is Asia's Largest Online Travel Agency

TableCheck to Accelerate its Efforts to Capture More of the Inbound Market with Offerings Including Ctrip's Gourmet List Restaurant Guide

Ctrip is Asia's largest online travel booking site, with roughly 300 million registered users. On Ctrip's food guide website, users can find information on approximately 9 million restaurants around the world. From among those, the company has selected approximately 20,000 eateries for its Gourmet List, a food guide that is tailored to Chinese tastes, and that is available to Ctrip members.

As the first phase in the partnership between TableCheck and Ctrip, TableCheck will be authorized to give awards to roughly 1,200 restaurants in Japan that have been selected for the Ctrip Gourmet List. It is expected that the two companies will also cooperate on online reservations and work together on strategies to boost one another's user traffic. If the two companies can successfully link their online reservation systems, they would enable Chinese visitors to Japan, who currently number approximately 8.4 million people per year* and growing, to obtain information and make reservations at restaurants in Japan more easily and conveniently. It would also become possible for the two companies to build frameworks for further increasing user traffic to restaurants within Japan.

In the immediate future, TableCheck will continue to pursue partnerships with online travel websites based outside of Japan and improve upon its ability to match inbound travelers with the restaurants in Japan that best suit them.

NOTES:

Billed as the guide to restaurants that "appeal most to Chinese tastes," the Ctrip Gourmet List has been published annually since 2016. In terms of Japanese locales, Ctrip has published restaurant guides for Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hokkaido since 2017. From among the approximately 9 million restaurants worldwide that are listed on Ctrip's restaurant website, around 20,000 have been hand-picked by gourmands to appear on the Gourmet List. Detailed information about the restaurants on the list is offered to Ctrip's base of approximately 300 million registered users.

The initial candidates for the list are restaurants that have been discovered by some 20,000 foodies around the world using the wealth of big data that Ctrip has accumulated in the 19 years since its founding. 800 professional judges then sample and grade the candidate restaurants' food. The restaurants that make it through are then the subject of a vote by 17 influential food critics, and this vote determines which restaurants make the final list. Ctrip believes that fine dining is about not only enjoying great food, but also experiencing the local lifestyle and appreciating culture itself. This philosophy is what guides the company as it seeks to enrich its Chinese users' travels with something more than mere meals.
