Restaurant Kiev opened in Gion-Shijo, Kyoto in 1972 as the second branch of the restaurant "Sungari" (the name of the Songhua River, a river in Harbin), which was opened in Tokyo in 1957 by founder Koshiro Kato (from Kyoto City) after returning from Manchuria.
