From November 6 (Friday) through November 29 (Sunday), 2026, HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo will host "Project O+O: Gabriel Orozco at HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo," an exhibition by internationally renowned Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco and Shinichiro Ogata.
Reimagining HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo as Orozco's "home," the exhibition brings together artworks, a specially designed setting, space, and culinary experience into a single artistic exploration. To mark the occasion, and in celebration of the traditional food culture of Orozco's native Mexico, a reservation-only special dinner will be offered — an original course menu where Mexican and Japanese food cultures intersect.
Throughout the exhibition, a hearth fitted with a comal — the round clay griddle essential for cooking tortillas — will be installed in the restaurant. Handmade tortillas, freshly grilled one by one, will form the base of tacos woven with Japanese ingredients and sensibility, part of a special course that reinterprets Mexican food culture. Guests can also enjoy a selection of fine spirits from CASA DRAGONES, Orozco's favorite tequila — including Casa Dragones Reposado Mizunara, aged in Japanese mizunara oak barrels — as well as Mexican beers.
The special dinner will also feature tableware designed by Ogata and produced in collaboration with Cooperativa 1050°, a group of ceramic artisans based in Oaxaca, Mexico, as well as traditional Mexican enamelware spoons — finished with lacquer by Japanese artisans under Ogata's direction.
In a space where art, food, and hospitality converge, guests are invited to savor a culinary experience in which the food cultures of both countries resonate with one another.
