Summer Solstice Tea Ceremony - Sounds of Memory -In 2024, following our performance at MUTTE salon “the Room” in Okayama, we will be holding a musical tea ceremony with clavichord maker and performer Akira Uchida for the first time in two years.
The clavichord, a keyboard instrument said to be the prototype of the piano, originated in the 14th century.
When the keys are pressed, tiny brass pieces strike the strings, producing a quiet, whispering tone.
The clavichord played in this performance was crafted in 2021 using reclaimed wood from Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
I remember Mr. Uchida drawing blueprints for the clavichord and talking to me at Yorozu in 2015.
I hope that the time I spent brewing tea beside him will now be transformed into sound and shared with you all.
Experience the quiet melodies and the aroma of new tea as the performances travel from Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto, MUTTE in Okayama, to Yorozu in Fukuoka.
Please enjoy a leisurely time, feeling the rain, wind, the sounds of the city, and even the silence.
