A visit to the Mikakiuchi is a special visit that allows you to enter an area closer to the main hall than the general visit. When the shrine is being repainted, a priest will guide you into the sacred area that is normally off-limits to the public. This is an extremely valuable experience, as you can view one of Japan's largest Nagare-zukuri main halls up close. - Contents of the experience - 1. Explanation of Heian Shrine at the front 2. At Heian Shrine's Shinen Garden, a designated Place of Scenic Beauty, the Tanabata Wind Chime Festival will be held from June 21st (Sat) to August 31st (Sun), where approximately 1,000 wind chimes will be displayed.
Since starting in 2022, this has become a seasonal summer event at the Shinen Garden, and the sight of countless wind chimes decorating the Taiheikaku Pavilion, with a phoenix standing on top, is a spectacular sight.
