The Aoi Matsuri (Hollyhock Festival) is a symbol of Kyoto's early summer and a symbol of the spirit and pride of Kyoto residents. A massive procession stretching approximately 1 kilometer, featuring 511 people dressed in gorgeous imperial court attire, 36 horses, 4 oxen, 2 oxcarts, and 1 palanquin, parades approximately 8 kilometers.

This plan includes a special seating arrangement in front of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, not available to the general public.
Watch the historical procession begin its journey right before your eyes. This special seating arrangement allows you to enjoy the opening of the Aoi Matsuri.

After viewing the Aoi Matsuri, lunch will be served at the Heian Jingu Kaikan. While overlooking the scenic Shinen Garden, you'll enjoy a Japanese-Western fusion cuisine inspired by the meal said to have been enjoyed by the Saio-dai, the heroine of the Aoi Matsuri.
