Enjoy a light hike to the 1,600-meter (5,250-foot) Chanokidaira lookout point in the hills behind the hotel. The forested trail offers beautiful views of Lake Chuzenji, and seasonal highlights include the rhododendrons in spring, the fresh leaf canopy of summer, and the colorful foliage each fall. Your reward is a spectacular view of Mount Nantai.

Hop on a mountain bike to ride the Lake Chuzenji Skyline, considered one of the best roads in Japan for scenic touring. The route back is a downhill ride with gorgeous views of the Nikko mountain range.

Fat bikes give the extra stability and suspension needed to ride on snow, and are a great way to take in the crisp air of the Odashirogahara forest in the winter season when all is hush and still. Add-ons to this fun cycling experience include a snowshoe hike and a deeper trek all the way to Iori Falls. When the cascade freezes over in the deep months of winter it’s a memorable sight to behold.

Morning Temple Walk
Start your day with a lakeside walk to Chuzenji Temple, whose history stretches back to 784. The round-trip route is just three kilometers (1.9 miles), and can include entry into some of the halls to see an acclaimed dragon painting, statues of the five wisdom kings, and the principal object of worship—an eleven-faced, thousand-armed statue of the bodhisattva Kannon said to have been carved by the temple’s founder.

You will walk approx. 1.5km mostly on flat path.

Nikko carving is also known as a traditional craft of Nikko that carves wood using a unique triangular sword called "Hikkaki". by a Buddhist monk from Chuzenji Temple, try your hand at copying a sutra
and tracing the figure and shape of a buddha—practices that monks have

commitment to heartful living. The calligraphy brush you use may be brought
home as a keepsake.
