Morning Temple Walk
Start your day with a lakeside walk to Chuzenji Temple, whose history stretches back to 784. The round-trip route is just three kilometers (1.9 miles), and can include entry into some of the halls to see an acclaimed dragon painting, statues of the five wisdom kings, and the principal object of worship—an eleven-faced, thousand-armed statue of the bodhisattva Kannon said to have been carved by the temple’s founder.

Sutra Copying / Buddha Tracing
Writing is meditation, and drawing is meditation, too. In this experience led
by a Buddhist monk from Chuzenji Temple, try your hand at copying a sutra
and tracing the figure and shape of a buddha—practices that monks have
done for centuries to calm and focus the mind and deepen their
commitment to heartful living. The calligraphy brush you use may be brought
home as a keepsake.

Nikko Carving Experience
Nikko carving is also known as a traditional craft of Nikko that carves wood using a unique triangular sword called "Hikkaki". This is a workshop where you will be taught directly by the artist of Nikko Bori, which is also used for the wall art that decorates the Japanese restaurant. You can choose your favorite shape and design according to your wishes, such as hand mirrors and wooden plates.

The history of the Lake Chuzenji area dates back more than 1,200 years to the founding of Chuzenji Temple and the times when these hills were first explored by devotees of mountain worship. From the late 19th century, many diplomats kept their holiday homes here. Cycle back to the roots of OkuNikko with visits to Chuzenji Temple and the former villas of the British and Italian embassies.

Japan's most beautiful World Heritage site, "Shrines and Temples of Nikko". At Nikko Toshogu Shrine, you will be guided through the precincts by shrine maidens and Shinto priests, and participate in prayers in a special space where you can feel the history of 400 years. You can also take a walk around Takinoo Shrine, which stands in beautiful greenery, and the mysterious Kanmangafuchi Abyss, where about 70 Jizo statues are lined up.
